Whatfs Mallakhamb ? It was the most
surprising for me to witness Mallakhamb at first among another variety of
Indian martial arts. Basically it was
originated as martial exercise especially for Kushti Indian traditional
wrestling. In general, It is
called Mallakhamb, malla means wrestler and khamb means pole, but Malkham in
Tamil. Mallkhamb is
divided into 4 categories. 1.
Preperation and Basic exercise. From basic stretch, roll and jump,
exceeding to difficult floor exercise with advanced Hatha Yoga postures in
continuous action on the mat. It looks like the hybrid of Yoga Asana,
Gymnastics and Chinese circus. The bodily flexibility of every student is
absolutely extraordinary. 2.
Mallakhamb Stand the wooden pole length of 3m and
half, and fixed it below ground level depth of 70cm, then try to climb it up
from the bottom to the top without rest, continuously move op by combination
of Yoga like postures. Then stand on the top of the pole, finish with big
jump and roll. It demands much flexibility, power of muscle, sense of
balance, and total coordination of body-mind concentration. Itfs some kind of fighting simulation
with big guy of 2.7m heights. If man can realize mastery over such kind of
powerful opponent, he can easily control over normal human. 3.
Hanging Mallakhamb Hanging wooden pole, which is little
smaller than regular one, from 5m height by the rope, then make same exercise
of the above. Because of unbalanced condition, the
degree of difficulty is much higher than regular Mallakhamb. 4.
Rope Mallakhamb Hanging cotton rope length of 10m, then
climbing up from the bottom to the top using both hands and the
crotch of big toes. On the way of climbing, make much variations of Yoga
like postures. In highly advanced level, speed, agility,
power, and fluidness are extremely fascinating. It looks like the
origin of great Chinese circus. P and S are
fit for girls, then Q and R are only for boys because of practiced by naked body. Mallakhamb has
appeared in the history with the name of gManosolhash on classic record in
1135 at first, as a universal martial exercise. Some people say
that it was originated at the In the meddle of
19th century, the great Kushti wrestler/trainer Balambhattadada Deodhar renovated it,
promoted it as a vigorous exercise for wrestlers. It has become the dawn of
modern Mallakhamb. At first it was mere exercise but afterwards, people
recognized the value of the art, it became the important and unique section of
gymnastics fields. In 1958, it has
taken entry to the All Now, it was highly developed and popularized all over in |
